Batch mates re-unite…☺

What a wonderful way to bring in December 2010. Work brought a dear friend to Mumbai and his chance meeting with another batch mate of ours at an art event he was attending had us all congregate at my place over a lunch of biryani the next day and lots of catching up…that’s not what this blog is about. This post is about something remarkable I felt over the meeting I had with my lovely friends.

All of us have at some point in our lives have used this term-‘live your dream’ or ‘ I want to live my dream’ and what is beautifully inspiring about both these friends of mine and something I admire is how they are quietly going about doing just that. For all those of you who do not know me but follow my blog-we are all alumni of the National Institute of Design (NID) which is internationally acclaimed as one of the foremost multi-disciplinary institutions in the field of design education and research in the country. The Business Week, USA has listed NID as one of the top 25 European & Asian programmes in the world.
What was wonderful for me to see was how though all of us had studied Design, we have been able to find ways to apply our learnings to our lives and make it an integral part of who we are and what we are involved with. One friend has gone from being a hard core graphic designer to becoming an artist who creates magical installations and uses design to leave the audience in awe and rapture and now travels the world wetting everyone’s taste buds with what he is able to conjure time and again in ways no one else can. The other who has through her work at NID showcased an amazing sense of thought and aesthetics is today on the cusp of acting in one of her biggest Bollywood blockbusters as a leading actress in main stream cinema and also continues something that has always been her first love-sculpture. She has been acting for a while down south in cinema there and has with her movies carved a niche for herself and become a name to reckon with.

So, why are they doing it? It is because they absolutely love what they do and are completely committed to the moment in ways that are very revitalizing.

Do we all know the paths our lives take? Do we fear the repercussions of the decisions we make? Are we scared to do what we truly want to or wish to do? One should take inspiration from these two. The thing is how are we going to answer these questions if we are not true to what we really wish to do or desire doing. I commend my friends for making the choices they have, I admire them for being able to stand up for what they believe in and go ahead and follow their dreams.

What was so lovely was that as we sat and chatted in the drawing room…it felt just like old times like we were teleported back to the hostel rooms or the corridors of NID.

The truth is old friends especially those from college are like fine wine…they may not stay in touch for days on end, their may be huge passages of time between meetings BUT when they get together it is just like old times…what a wonderful afternoon it was….one that I shall cherish for a long time to come.

Thank you my dear ones for coming into my space and filling it with an energy that only you could have brought with you. I am deeply indebted to you for that wonderful afternoon we shared.
